In 1998,the Abilene Roller Hockey Association, approached the City of Abilene with the request to build an outdoor inline hockey facility.
The league, at that time was using an indoor roller skating rink which was too small and unsafe for its players and spectators.
With the Western Professional Hockey League looking to expand operations in Abilene, the City of Abilene, agreed to purchase and construct a $200,000.00 inline hockey facility, including lighting and spectator seating. After months of ground work and construction, a new rink and a new league, The Key City Hockey Association, was formed.
The KCHA’s first season was held in the Spring of 2000. With the new WPHL’s expansion team, the Abilene Aviators, having huge success on the ice, the KCHA saw great success as well.
Through the years many upgrades and achievements have been accomplished by the KCHA and the league continues to grow.
Since its inception, the goal has remained the same, to provide a safe learning environment for the youth of Abilene and the surrounding area, to experience a nontraditional West Texas Sport.
The KCHA continues to provide those with the love of hockey a place to play the sport they love.
KCHA is a "No Check" Inline Hockey League sanctioned by USA Hockey, the same organization that organizes the USA Olympic hockey teams.
KCHA has Spring & Fall seasons for youth players ages 5 to adult, all skill levels are welcome. Come on out and see what we are all about.
